N2 Extreme Gelato, Chinatown

Ever since I watched my favourite celebrity chef, Heston Blumenthal create nitro scrambled eggs and bacon flavour ice cream I’ve wanted to find somewhere in Sydney that would create something similar. Recently a friend mentioned to me over dinner that there was a new ice cream place in Chinatown that made ice cream with nitrogen, N2 extreme gelato.

The first thing you notice as you enter the store is the counter that resembles a chemistry lab with apparatus like flasks everywhere. Below the counter is rows and rows of flasks filled to the brim with delicious liquids ready to be into ice cream.

Anyone who grew up with Chinese parents would remember eating white rabbit lollies. The creamy candy is soft and chewy texture and wrapped in a thin edible paper-like wrapping made from sticky rice is a real treat. Yum!

So naturally I choose the white rabbit with milk flavour gelato…

and Monkey had the mango sorbet.

At $6 a scoop, it is quite large so trust them when they say you don’t really need a second scoop. The texture is extremely smooth and light. At first look n2 is probably more of a novelty when you get to see your ice cream flavour being whipped up by the people behind the counter with their crisp white lab coats but, they do have some very interesting flavours you can’t get from other places so its definitely worth a try.

If you happen to be in Chinatown this weekend for the moon festival make sure to try out their moon cake with almond flake flavour gelato. I’ll sure be down their this Sunday to try it out!
